TBC and YTC: More Third-Party Tires Recalled

By July 16, 2012

Follow me on:

More recalls related to third-party tires, as TBC Corp. will recall 72,938 tires including the Mirada Cross Tour SLX and Big O Big Foot S/T tires. The recall covers tires in sizes 235/70R16 and 265/70R17, manufactured from January 2009 through January 2011 (DOT numbers 0409 through 0411).

According to the NHTSA these tires , which are manufactured for TBC by Yokohama Tire in their Salem, VA plant, have an "irregular geometry" in the lower sidewall/tread shoulder area, which can lead to cracking in the lower sidewall and rapid air loss. This sounds to me as if the tire is flexing incorrectly at the tread shoulder, such that the sidewall itself is experiencing road wear and breaking down.

TBC says it will notify owners, and dealers will replace the tires free of charge. Free mounting and balancing also will be included, as applicable.

The recall is expected to begin on July 20, 2012. Owners may contact TBC at (901) 363-8030, the NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236 or go to safercar.gov.
